Interdependence Draft
For Media class, we are assigned many group projects. Some group projects are making P.S.A.s or music videos. If one person does not do their job then the video will not be successful and the whole groups grade will suffer. We all depend on each other to get the job done.
For Biology, we have been assigned a group project called ECyberMission. It is a national science project competition that includes 3-4 people in each group. If someone in the group doesn’t do their job then you will not do a very good job and you will not win.
For Modern Hawaiian History, we are assigned small group research projects. An example of this is the “Causes of the Overthrow of the Monarchy” research project. We were put into groups and each group member was responsible for a part of the research. We had to make a PowerPoint about what we researched. If someone in our group did not do their research then the PowerPoint would not be complete. The whole group suffers if one person does not do their job.
For English, we were assigned a project called KC3. It is a group project that includes six people in each group. There are 5 parts to this project, they are: website, survey, interview video, powerpoint/script, and interactivity. The group decides on which members are doing which part. Then we create a timeline, making due dates that the whole group must follow. If someone does not do their job we will not be able to compete and KC3 videoconference competition.
Interdependence plays a really big role in our MeneMac core. We all rely on each other to do what they have to so we can get the job done.

Much of the earliest Hawaiian compositions (1829 – 1872) have been lost, but a lot remains from between 1872 and 1900. Some of these musical pieces are from the royal composers (Kalakaua, Lili`uokalani, Leleiohoku, and Likelike). In 1879, Portuguese immigrants, Manuel Nunes, Joao Fernandes, and Augustine Dias, came to Hawaii to word in the sugar cane fields. They created the ukulele using the basic designs of instruments from their native home. All the kings and queens loved the instrument, raising its popularity in Hawaii greatly. Everyone who learned to play the ukulele loved it. The introduction of this instrument greatly influenced the style of Hawaiian music. This is when the Hawaiians were first introduced to hapa/haole music.
Back when the first hulas were performed, the music that they danced to consisted of only vocal and occasionally musical instruments. Since the Hawaiians did not have a lot of metals and minerals, they had to make their instruments from Hawaii’s natural resources such as trees, plants, and shells. Some of these instruments are the ipu (a drum made out of a gourd), the kala'au (sticks that were struck together), the 'ili 'ili (two flat smooth stones that were clicked together), the Conch Shell (a large ocean shell that was blown into to produce deep resonant tones). There were also lots more that helped to make beautiful music. When the foreigners came they brought instruments that greatly influenced Hawaiian music. They introduced instruments such as the guitar and the electric bass. Adding a bass line to the music has changed Hawaiian music greatly, but in a good way. The music that these instruments can make is just beautiful.
Due to the influence of foreigners coming to Hawaii, Hawaiian music has changed a great deal.

Sometimes I like to just lie down and think. I put on some music, lie down, and just close my eyes. Being a teenager, I have problems such as problems with family, friends, and girls. My room is the place that I can sort out all of my thoughts. I find out what my priorities are make decisions based on it.
Music is a big part of my life. When I'm in my room I put on music to help me concentrate. I feel that music is one of the best ways to express yourself. My room is the perfect place for me to listen to my favorite kind of music, rock. I can make the music as loud as I want as long as it's not too late and the neighbors don't complain. The music really helps me to define myself.
Even though my room is kind of messy I don't mind. The mess helps to reflect my personality. I'll admit that I'm not one of the cleanest guys, but if you look around my room you will see things that really show who I am. I have a lot of music things like my guitar, a stereo, and my iPod.
My room is the place where I can most be myself because I can do whatever I want and nobody can judge me.
Journal #8
My room: My room is a place that I can be myself and do whatever I want with no one there to judge me. I don't need to impress anyone and can think with no interruptions. I can listen to music or play guitar or just lie down and think.

Finally everyone shows up and as I walk toward the dessert of my dreams. I look at my mom as she gives me a look that I have seen many times before. A look that says "Let the guests take first." I go to get my dinner to try and distract my stomach. The whole time that I'm eating my dinner I'm thinking of the butter mochi.
At last! It's my turn to take my first piece of the delectable dessert. As I take my first bite, my mouth explodes with all the flavor and texture of the mochi. This would be the highlight of my night. With my family, if you want some of the butter mochi you have to take fast because it goes fast. Everyone always fights over the corners and edges of the dish. These pieces are the best because of the crunchy outside and the warm soft inside, making it the perfect piece.
When I interviewed my mom about this dessert she told me a story about when she had to make it four times in one day. She wanted to give pieces of the mochi away as gifts for a special occasion. She woke up early in the morning to start and worked until late afternoon. "It was tons of fun," she explained, "but plenty of work."
I absolutely love my mom's butter mochi and I look forward to eating it at our next family party, but then again. . . .who doesn't?!
Journal #3
The food that I have chosen is butter mochi. My whole family loves my mom's butter mochi so she makes it for special occasions such as christmas, birthdays, and family gatherings. If you want some of it you have to take fast because at parties the buttter mochi is gone in minutes. I remember the first time that my mom made the butter mochi for my family, everyone fought over the "corners" because of the crunchy texture. I am planning to interview my mom, Carrie Tachino, about this dish on Saturday, August 29. Some of the questions that I will be asking are:
- What is your opinion on the dish?
- Do you have any special memories related to the dessert?
- Is this dessert part of a family tradition? If so, when did it become a tradition?
- When did you first hear about/prepare this dish?
- Could you tell me a story or a personal experience that you've had with this dish?
