Coming of Age

A person's coming of age is when they take on the maturity and responsibilities of an adult. They must learn how to take care of themselves and how to act professionally in public.

I am in the process of applying for a job. I believe that getting a job will teach me responsibility and help me learn how to take care of myself when I become an adult. It will also teach me about the real working world and the value of a dollar. I will have to learn how to deal with many different types of people including people that I will not care for. Since I have applied for a job in sales I will also have to deal with rude customers.

I have also started to take more responsibilities at home. I do more chores around the house including housework and yard work. As a part of the family I have the responsibility to work around the house now that I am old enough not to mess things up. I believe that this will help me in the future because I will need to do these chores around the house when I get older and decide to buy my own house and start a family. Taking care of my younger siblings will also help me to prepare for when I have my own kids.

I have also prioritized my life with a more mature outlook. Things like school and chores have moved up in my list and things like girls have moved down. I know which things will help me better prepare for my future. School will help me prepare for my future by allowing me to get into a good college and then get a good job. A job and chores will help me learn how to take care of myself.

When a person is able to look at the world with the maturity of an adult, they know that they have come of age.
