When most people hear the term “successful student” they think good grades, valedictorian, prestigious college, etc. What some people might not know is the difference between a “smart student” and a “successful student.” To be a successful student you don’t have to get straight A’s. You don’t have to be captain of the debate. You don’t have to be the valedictorian that speaks in front of your graduating class. I feel to be a successful student you have to try your best in school while juggling the stresses of family, friends, and extra curricular activities. They need to have fun during their school years while learning the material needed for life.
Being a successful student is not based on what grades you get, but what you learn in class and how well you can apply it to real life. Sure, it would be nice to get straight A’s and be top of the class, but for some students in sports and clubs there are just not enough hours in the day for extra studying and over achieving in school. Learning the material and being able to apply it to real life is more important than a letter grade. The whole reason why students go to school is to learn things that will help them when they grow up and become adults in the real world.
Stress plays a big part in every student’s life. There’s no such thing as a perfect family. Many families will have problems that will affect you and how you perform in school. Even best friends fight sometimes. A successful student can’t let social drama affect their schoolwork. To be a successful student you must be able to handle stress and be able to do good and pay attention in school.
All students need to have some fun. This is one way of coping with stress. Having fun is a way to release stress and forget about all of your problems. If you notice that your schoolwork is beginning to frustrate you, go outside and play with your siblings or friends. Physical activity is also a good way to relieve stress. But once you’ve had your fun you have to remember to come back and finish the work. Unfinished work is a sign of an unsuccessful student.
I feel that these are the qualities of a successful student. A student can be successful without being top of the class. Any student that comes out of school with the knowledge they need to survive in the real world should feel successful.
